Person mowing lawn saw a bat in the grass and attempted to move it, was bitten in the process.  He has initiated P.E.P.  No domestic animal involvement.

13 year-old found bat and took to playhouse to nurse, 3 days later bat dies.  No known exposure to domestic animals.

Bat found on beach at Mercer Beach, Walled lake and sent to MDCH. No know domestic animal exposure.

Bat found in bedroom by homeowner-possibly bitten.  Ex-wife also at home at the time.  Both receiving P.E.P. 2 dogs not considered exposed and current on vaccinations.

Bat on chimney outside of house, next morning bat was on grass, cat (no history of rabies vaccination) was outside all night, dog loose also (overdue on rabies vaccine).  Both animals euthanized and all family members received P.E.P.

No human exposure.  Unvaccinated cat killed bat in house.  Cat euthanized by ACO.  No other pets.

Stepped on bat in middle of night, was bitten. Received PEP.  5 cats in household-none current on vaccinations.  Were vaccinated after bat contact.  2 cats considered exposed – euthanasia declined, 6 mo quarantine chosen. No exposure to other adult in household.

Bat in barn with several animals, rabies vaccination overdue by a few weeks so boosted.  One horse present on vaccine & boosted.

Bat in house, cat captured and killed it.  No HB exposure.  Cat was current & boosted, 45-day observation being applied.

Bat flying in house, caught it with a glove on.  Not sure if bitten through glove.  Received PEP.  No domestic animals.

Young son with bat on arm while sleeping, mother asleep in same room.  Both received PEP.  No domestic animal exposure.

Bat in a restricted area of house.  No HB’s exposed.  Has 2 cats, no current rabies vaccination history.  In different room with door closed, no measures taken but rabies vaccination recommended.

Picked up “baby” bat, bitten on thumb.  Received PEP, no domestic animals exposed.
29. M03RA001586 08/21/2003 Mecosta Bat
Bat caught in gutter, shot and killed by home owner.  Cat not current on rabies vaccination.  Elected 6-month quarantine supervised by health department and Animal Control.

Bat in home, 3 adults and 2 children sleeping, received PEP.  1 puppy in house at the time, puppy owner lives in Detroit, owner has returned to home and puppy will be managed by Wayne Co. Health Department.

Cat captured by, cat not vaccinated was euthanized and tested negative.  No other domestic animal exposure.

4 cats potentially exposed, 3 un-vaccinated, 1 was 1-month overdue-boosted.  All 4 quarantined & monitored by Jackson County Animal Control.

16 people sleeping in cabin, bat had bitten at least one.  All 16 received PEP.  No domestic animals exposed.
34. M03RA001785 08/28/2003 St. Clair Cat
Barn cat on the property for 5 years, un-vaccinated.  Property owner was bitten when offering food.  Next day the situation was repeated, the cat being much more aggressive.  Owner helped in capturing cat by neighbor (not exposed).  Owner received PEP.  No other family members exposed.  Animal Control live trapped 2 additional barn cats and euthanized, not tested.  Dogs and horses current on rabies vaccination, boosted.

No HB contact.  Owner of property found bat under tree.  Dog showing interest, but no known contact, dog current on vaccinations.  1 other dog in household, also current, not involved in this case.

Owners returned home to find bat attached to cat by its feet.  Cat overdue on rabies vaccination.  Owners considering in-home 6-month quarantine.  Health department has concerns due to young children in household.

Dog found playing with dead bat in entryway of home, was current on vaccinations.  To be re-vaccinated and observed 45 days.  3 HB’s rec’d PEP.

No HB exposure, 2 cats euthanized, tested negative.
39. M03RA001966 09/19/2003 Lapeer Bat
Old house with history of bats, stepped on this one.  Rec’d PEP.  2 dogs in household, both current on rabies vacc’s, will rec. booster and undergo 45 day observation period
