Update: State Tax Commission changes treatment of residential solar panels

Editor’s Note: This is an update to the news release that was issued on Feb. 5, 2018 regarding the classification of residential solar panels.
LANSING, Mich. –The Michigan State Tax Commission on Feb. 13 rescinded its previous guidance as it relates to the classification of solar panels on residential parcels.
Effective immediately, solar panels on residential property will be assessed as a component of the real property and will no longer be assessed as personal property.
