LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Michigan Board of Audiology: 

Lari P. Korpela of Livonia, audiologist at the Metropolitan Speech and Hearing Center in Eastpointe.  Ms. Korpela is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2005.

Dennis L. Burrows of Kalamazoo, executive director and president of Constance Brown Hearing Centers.  Mr. Burrows is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2006.

John G. Bizon, M.D. of Battle Creek, physician and owner of Southern Michigan Ear Nose and Throat, P.C.  Dr. Bizon is appointed to represent persons licensed to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine and surgery who hold a certificate of qualification from the American Board of Otolaryngology for a term expiring June 30, 2006.

Gyl A. Kasewurm of St. Joseph, president and clinical audiologist for Professional Hearing Services, Ltd.  Ms. Kasewurm is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2007.

Karen A. Jacobs of Rockford, owner/president and audiologist of AVA Hearing Center, Inc in Grand Rapids.  Ms. Jacobs is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2007.

Yvette M. Barrett of Detroit, attorney for the Law Office of Yvette M. Barrett.  Ms Barrett is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2008.

Michael D. Seidman, M.D. of West Bloomfield, director of the Division of Otologic/Neurotologic Surgery and Division of Complimentary/Integrative Medicine at Henry Ford Health System.  Dr. Seidman is appointed to represent persons licensed to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine and surgery who hold a certificate of qualification from the American Board of Otolaryngology for a term expiring June 30, 2008.

Linda I. Seestedt-Stanford of Mt. Pleasant, assistant dean of The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University.  Ms. Seestedt-Stanford is appointed to represent audiologists for a term expiring June 30, 2008.

The Michigan Board of Audiology was recently established pursuant to Public Act 97 of 2004, and is responsible for overseeing the licensure and regulation of audiologists, including establishing specific requirements for licensure. 

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
