And I couldn’t be more committed to creating new jobs for Michigan residents.
Most recently, I’ve traveled to northern
Michigan to share my economic plan with business leaders there, Washington,
D.C. to fight for our military
bases and the jobs and communities they support; I’ve made a pitch to Airbus
to invest in the Great Lake State; my administration is working on a “hit list”
of businesses to lure to Michigan; and later this year, I will travel to Japan
and Germany to pitch new suppliers and automakers. I am fighting to
keep every job we’ve got and to create the kind of business environment that
will allow us to grow new ones.
I’ve proposed a change in the business
tax structure so that job providers are encouraged – not DIScouraged – to
create jobs in Michigan.
And I’m fighting to create new jobs in Michigan
through my Jobs
Today Initiative that speeds up construction projects in everything
from roads to housing
projects to nursing
homes to environmental
cleanup. We can create thousands of jobs right now and improve our roads and schools to make our state more attractive
for new companies. We’re going to ask citizens to help us invest $2 billion to
create thousands more jobs – from research to construction to high-tech
manufacturing – all over the state.
And to make sure people are ready for new jobs – we’re
training more people and introducing a new Merit
Scholarship to ensure that more kids can afford to go to college.
I have a plan to get Michigan’s
economy moving and it’s time for the Legislature to act on it.
