Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Designations

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and designations:

State Historic Preservation Officer

Brian D. Conway of Lansing, current State Historic Preservation Officer, is designated to serve as State Historic Preservation Officer for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.

Pursuant to Section II of Executive Order 2007-53, the governor shall appoint the State Historic Preservation Officer who serves as head of the State Historic Preservation Office.  Officer duties include directing and conducting a comprehensive statewide survey of historic properties and maintaining inventories of the properties in cooperation with federal agencies, state departments and agencies, local governments, and private organizations and individuals; identifying and nominating eligible properties to the National Register and otherwise administering applications for listing historic properties on the National Register; preparing and implementing a comprehensive statewide historic preservation plan; and administering the state program of federal assistance for historic preservation within the state.

This designation is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

State Historic Preservation Review Board
 
Scott G. Beld, Ph.D. of Whitmore Lake, research laboratory specialist for the University of Michigan Museum of Paleontology, is appointed to represent prehistoric archeology for a term expiring December 31, 2008.

Janese A. Chapman of Detroit, historic specialist of the Detroit City Council Historic Designation Advisory Board, is appointed to represent architectural history for a term expiring December 31, 2009.

Lynn L. M. Evans, Ph.D. of Mackinaw City, curator of archeology with the Mackinac State Historic Parks, is appointed to represent historic archeology for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Richard H. Harms, Ph.D. of Caledonia, curator of archives for Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary, is appointed to represent history for a term expiring December 31, 2010.  Dr. Harms is also designated to serve as chairperson at the pleasure of the governor.

Alison K. Hoagland of Houghton, professor of history and historic preservation for Michigan Technological University Department of Social Services, is appointed to represent architectural history for a term expiring December 31, 2009.

Elisabeth Knibbe of Ypsilanti, principal of Quinn Evans Architects, is appointed to represent architectural history for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

Carolyn S. Loeb, Ph.D. of Lansing, associate professor of Michigan State University Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, is appointed to represent architectural history for a term expiring December 31, 2008.

Jennifer L. Radcliff of Clarkston, owner of Preservation Advantage consulting firm, is appointed to represent preservation for a term expiring December 31, 2008.

Ronald D. Staley of Brighton, vice president of The Christman Company, is appointed to represent preservation construction for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

The State Historic Preservation Review Board is responsible for providing advice to the State Historic Preservation Office and the Department History, Arts and Libraries on the full range of historic preservation fund-supported activities, as well as reviewing and making recommendations on National Register nomination proposals.  The board also participates in the review of appeals of National Register nominations.

These appointments and designations are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
