Whereas, The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging has funded Adult Day Services for over 25 years, which has allowed caregivers of the frail and elderly to have their loved ones receive social and rehabilitative services within the setting of their choice; and,
Whereas, The need for services has increased in recent years as caregivers have increasingly sought services for their family members in order to maintain their quality of life; and,
Whereas, Adult Day Services provides respite to families and care to functionally impaired adults in need of assistance within a setting of their choice; and,
Whereas, There are over 85 Adult Day Service programs in 67 counties in Michigan who support services for seniors and their caregivers; and,
Whereas, During FY 2004 over 8,000 caregivers received over 10,000 hours of respite from their caregiving duties; and,
Whereas, The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging recognizes the importance of this valuable service for caregivers and their family members who are frail and elderly; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of September 19, 2004, as Adult Day Services Week in Michigan and I encourage all of Michigan’s citizens to recognize the importance of this service for the caregivers of the frail and elderly citizens of Michigan.
