Whereas, The American Public Works Association in recognition of National Public Works Week, May 15 through May 21, 2005, has declared this year’s theme as “Public Works is Everywhere You Look”; and,
Whereas, The support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of a Department of Public Works in the major areas of refuse and bulk collection, snow removal, environmental control regulations, roadway repair and resurfacing, sidewalk repair and replacement, traffic devices and street name signs, and issuance of construction permits; and,
Whereas, The quality and effectiveness of carrying out these responsibilities are largely influenced by the employees understanding the importance of the work they perform; and,
Whereas, The environmental health and comfort of our Michigan community greatly depends upon the qualified administration and efficient skills of the dedication employees of our cities Department of Public Works; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of Michigan do hereby proclaim the week of May 15, 2005, as Public Works Week in Michigan and I urge all people to join with representatives of governmental agencies and the American Public Works Association in activities and ceremonies designed to pay tribute to our public works professionals, engineers and administrators and to recognize the substantial contributions they have made to our national health and welfare.
