Michigan Pharmacy Week

Whereas, The public need for professional guidance in the proper use of prescription and nonprescription medications is well established; and,

Whereas, The pharmacist is today’s medication expert on modern therapeutics and one of the most readily accessible members of the healthcare team; and,

Whereas, Through education and experience, the pharmacist is qualified to enhance patient therapy compliance or, in many cases, to detect and prevent dangerous drug interactions; and,

Whereas, Pharmacists play a vital role in maintaining the health of Michigan’s residents by providing experienced and professional assistance and information on medications and their use; and,

Whereas, Everyday, pharmacists care for patients by providing high quality, cost-effective health services and monitoring drug therapies; and,

Whereas, The demand for pharmacy services is greater than ever as many patients now take multiple medications, more drugs are available without a prescription, and the population of this nation is gradually aging; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of October 19, 2003, as Michigan Pharmacy Week in Michigan, and I urge all citizens to join with the Michigan Pharmacist Association in recognizing the services of our pharmacists and to consult them about the safe, effective use of medications.
