Whereas, Michigan’s Workforce Development System, known as the Michigan
Works! System, is dedicated to serving the needs of Michigan workers, employers
and communities; and,
Whereas, The purpose of our Workforce Development System is to support and
enhance Michigan’s economy and prosperity by training a skilled workforce
and matching those skilled workers with employers; and,
Whereas, The 25 local Workforce Development Boards and their Michigan Works!
Agencies, in cooperation with the Governor’s Workforce Commission and
the Michigan Department of Career Development, have created the most progressive
system of workforce development in the nation; and,
Whereas, The Workforce Development Boards and local elected officials, through
their unique private-public partnership, have committed themselves to the continuous
improvement of Michigan’s workforce and strengthening of Michigan’s
economy for the common good of all residents of our Great Lakes State; and now
therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim the week of September 21, 2003, as Michigan Works! Week and
I urge all citizens to recognize the important contributions made to our state
by the Michigan Works! System.
