Whereas, Peace embraces the deepest hopes of all people and remains humanity’s
guiding inspiration; and,
Whereas, The United Nations asked that the International Day of Peace be observed
as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, and invited all nations and people
to honor a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the day; and,
Whereas, There is a growing support within our state for the observance of
the International Day of Peace, which affirms a vision of our world at peace,
and fosters cooperation between individuals, organizations and nations; and,
Whereas, Global crises impel all citizens to work toward converting humanity’s
noblest aspirations for world peace into a practical reality for future generations;
and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim the week of September 21, 2003, as Peace Day throughout the
State of Michigan and I urge all citizens to recognize this day in an appropriate
manner.
