Whereas, Beneath all that troubles this world lies what is now commonly called
a moral crisis where old social values have been broken and new moral values
have not replaced them; and,
Whereas, Bringing about a new era of morality and peace worldwide begins in
America; and,
Whereas, Our greatest national resource is our children – they too can
help make a difference, as demonstrated by the millions upon millions who have
participated in the National Children’s Set A Good Example student campaign
with projects that helped to reduce drug abuse, crime and violence on campus;
and,
Whereas, Those projects resulted in safer learning environments, demonstrating
that common-sense morals, virtues and values commonly accepted by others can
help make a real difference; and,
Whereas, This children’s campaign has helped to build honesty, trust,
tolerance, competence and understanding and is one of America’s most highly
commended moral education programs sponsored by concerned business people located
in every state; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan,
do hereby proclaim June, 2004, as “Good Example” Moral Education
Month in Michigan, reaffirming our continuing commitment to help reduce and
eventually eliminate drug abuse, crime, violence, brutality, illiteracy, child
abuse and other social ills from our homes, schools, neighborhoods, and communities,
thus helping to lay the foundation for a peaceful world by treating others the
way we want to be treated by them and setting the example here at home in our
own state and county.
