Cancer Survivors Day

Whereas, Today, 9,600,000 Americans are cancer survivors, thanks to advances in early cancer detection, treatment and research; and,

Whereas, Over 48,220 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in Michigan this year; and,

Whereas, The great state of Michigan has an active, productive cancer survivor population, demonstrating that a cancer diagnosis is no longer an automatic death sentence; and,

Whereas, William Beaumont Hospital, Troy, celebrates life on Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the 17th Annual Celebration of Life picnic; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 7, 2004, as Cancer Survivors Day in Michigan.
