Governor Granholm Announces Appointments

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm made the following recent appointments:

Civil Rights Commission:

Mohammed Abdrabboh of Dearborn, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2007.

Mark Bernstein of Ann Arbor, attorney for the Law Offices of Samuel I. Bernstein. Mr. Bernstein is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2006. He succeeds Francisco Villarruel who has resigned.

Certificate of Need Commission:

Dorothy Deremo of Northville, president and CEO of Hospice of Michigan. Ms. Deremo is appointed to represent nurses for a term expiring December 31, 2006.

Michigan Education Trust Board of Directors:

Paula Cunningham of Lansing, president of Lansing Community College. Ms. Cunningham is reappointed to represent presidents of community or junior colleges for a term expiring December 31, 2006.

Michael Rao of Mt. Pleasant, president of Central Michigan University. Mr. Rao is reappointed to represent presidents of state institutions of higher learning for a term expiring December 31, 2006.

All of the above appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board:

James Scullion of Marquette, retired president and CEO of the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad. Mr. Scullion is appointed to represent the Marquette Historical Society for a term expiring October 4, 2007. He succeeds Frederick Stonehouse, II whose term has expired.

Allan Koski of Negaunee, senior engineer for Cliffs Michigan Mining Co., an Empire Iron Mining Partnership in Marquette County.  Mr. Koski is reappointed to represent the mineral industry for a term expiring October 4, 2007.

Committee on Juvenile Justice:

Arthur Carter of Detroit, Director of Children and Family Services for the Wayne County Department of Children and Family Services. Mr. Carter is appointed to represent public agencies concerned with delinquency prevention or treatment for a term expiring March 15, 2006. He succeeds Joseph Sheeran who has resigned.

The three above appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
