Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to Michigan Community Service Commission

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced following appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC): 

Wendy R. Acho of West Bloomfield, vice president of commercial banking for Standard Federal Bank.  Ms. Acho is appointed to represent business for a term expiring October 2, 2007.  She succeeds Michael Makki whose term has expired.
 
Brenda L. Lawrence of Southfield, mayor of the City of Southfield.  Mayor Lawrence is appointed to represent local government for a term expiring October 2, 2007.  She succeeds Kenneth Bensen whose term has expired.

Shaun M. VanHorn of Sterling Heights, student.  Mr. VanHorn is appointed to represent an individual between the ages of 16 and 25 who is a participant or supervisor in a program as defined in section 101 of title I, 42 U.S.C. 12511 for a term expiring October 2, 2007.  He succeeds Pam Roth whose term has expired.

Kenneth Whipple of Bloomfield Hills, chairman of CMS Energy.  Mr. Whipple is appointed to represent business for a term expiring October 2, 2007.  He succeeds Alexander Garnepudi whose term has expired.

Mary Elizabeth Bunn of Detroit, secretary-treasurer for the International Union, UAW.  Ms. Bunn is reappointed to represent local labor organizations for a term expiring October 2, 2007.

Kari M. Pardoe of Grand Rapids, program associate for the Council of Michigan Foundations.  Ms. Pardoe is reappointed to represent an individual between the ages of 16 and 25 who is a participant or supervisor in a program as defined in section 101 of title I, 42 U.S.C. 12511 for a term expiring October 2, 2007.

Jerry L. Seese of Saginaw, superintendent of schools for Saginaw Township Community Schools.  Mr. Seese is reappointed to represent local educators for a term expiring October 2, 2007.

Janet C. Lawson of Troy, executive director of the Michigan Community Service Commission.  Ms. Lawson is appointed as a nonvoting member.

The commission is a state agency charged with funding and supporting programs to encourage Michigan residents to volunteer.  The commission is chaired by First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern.

These appointments and reappointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
