Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to State Construction Code Commission

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced the following appointments and reappointment to the State Construction Code Commission:

Kelly L. Hunt of Belding, treasurer of Hunt-Hoppough Custom Crafted Structures, Inc.  Ms. Hunt is appointed to represent the field of premanufactured building for a term expiring January 31, 2007.  She succeeds Joyce Rogers whose term has expired. 

C. Jack Lewis of North Branch, consultant for Americans with Disabilities Act.  Mr. Lewis is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring January 31, 2006.  He succeeds Frank Mamat whose term has expired.

Nelson C. McMath of Ann Arbor, secretary and treasurer for Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 9.  Mr. McMath is appointed to represent organized labor for a term expiring January 31, 2006.  He succeeds Ronald Krochmalny whose term has expired. 

Amru Meah of Detroit, director of the Buildings and Safety Engineering Department for the City of Detroit.  Mr. Meah is appointed to represent municipal building inspectors for a term expiring January 31, 2007.  He succeeds Gary Shripka whose term has expired. 
      
Edwin E. Tatem of West Bloomfield, county highway engineer for the Macomb County Road Commission.  Mr. Tatem is appointed to represent the field of professional engineering for a term expiring January 31, 2007.  He succeeds Esteban Cabello whose term has expired.

Beth A. Yorke of Huntington Woods, construction project manager for Barton Malow Co.  Ms. Yorke is appointed to represent the field of building contracting for a term expiring January 31, 2007.  She succeeds Steven East whose term has expired. 

Donald L. Pratt of Huntington Woods, president of Wake-Pratt Construction Co.  Mr. Pratt is reappointed to represent licensed residential builders for a term expiring January 31, 2007.

The State Construction Code Commission prepares and promulgates the state construction code that governs the construction, use, and occupation of buildings and structures. The commission is also charged with adding, amending, and/or rescinding rules to update the code at least once every three years in order to coincide with the national code change cycle.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
