LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Michigan Food Policy Council: 

Elaine M. Brown of Laingsburg, executive director of Michigan Integrated Food and Farming Systems (MIFFS).  Ms. Brown is appointed to represent sustainable agriculture or sustainable agricultural development for a term expiring August 18, 2008.

Todd J. Regis of Jackson, legislative and political director for United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951.  Mr. Regis is appointed to represent organized labor for a term expiring August 18, 2008.

The Michigan Food Policy Council was established by Executive Order 2005-13.  The council’s goals include expanding businesses and jobs across food-related sectors in the state; increasing access to fresh and healthy Michigan-grown foods, including for school children, low-income families, at-risk seniors, and inner-city residents; promoting the purchase and consumption of Michigan-grown and Michigan-processed foods; and identifying strategies to enhance connections between Michigan growers and Michigan food outlets.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval.
