LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Council for Labor and Economic Growth

Frank J. Cloutier of Pinconning, public relations manager of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, is appointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2010.  He succeeds George E. Bennett who has resigned.

Tim W. Herman of Flint, CEO of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce, is appointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2010.

Sue E. Koseck of Chelsea, GVP of Global Power Human Potential with TAQA New World, Inc., is appointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2012.  She succeeds Matthew C. Brynildson who has resigned.

Jim D. Roberts of St. Joseph, president of Jim Roberts Enterprises LLC, is appointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2012.  He succeeds Earle S. Irwin who has resigned.

Carlos A. Sanchez of Grand Rapids, executive director of the Grand Rapids Housing Commission, is appointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2012.  He succeeds Patricia M. Shimmens who has resigned.

Cunesha C. Sanders of Grand Blanc, director of the Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center, is appointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2009.  She succeeds Benjie A. Williams who has resigned.

Ryan C. Swartz of Haslett, professional healthcare representative for Pfizer, is appointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2011.  He succeeds Antoon P. Brusselmans who has resigned.

The Council for Labor and Economic Growth serves as the state's workforce investment board required under Section 111 of the Federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998.  Additionally, the council is charged with assessing trends and issues, developing strategies, and acting as an ongoing strategic advising body that encourages and stimulates innovative public and private responses to workforce challenges.  Members work to develop policies and help implement programs that shape a flexible 21st century workforce that meets the needs of Michigan's businesses and allows them to successfully compete in the global marketplace today and in the future.  The council is an action-oriented board that has the ability to recommend changes and ensure their implementation.  These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority
 
Reverend Bruce A. McCoy of Grand Rapids, senior pastor of Bibleway Outreach Ministries, is appointed to represent citizens of the state with an interest in higher education for a term expiring May 22, 2009.  He succeeds Nathaniel Smith-Tyge who has resigned.

Ederl E. Moore of Detroit, 14th congressional district precinct delegate, is appointed to represent citizens of the state with an interest in higher education for a term expiring May 22, 2012.  She succeeds Jack D. Minore whose term has expired.

Howard J. Thomas of Royal Oak, director of financial aid for Walsh College of Accountancy, is appointed to represent private colleges for a term expiring May 22, 2012.  He succeeds Gina M. Torielli whose term has expired.

The Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority enhances freedom of choice and equality of access to Michigan students seeking a postsecondary education.  It also administers a wide variety of state and federal scholarships and grant and loan programs.

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan State Housing Development Authority

Tonya V. Gatson of Detroit, active member of the Word of Faith International Christian Center, is appointed to represent residents of public housing for a term expiring March 10, 2010.  She succeeds Dorothy R. Stockbridge whose term has expired.

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), provides financial and technical assistance through public and private partnerships to create and preserve decent, affordable housing for low- and moderate-income Michigan residents.  MSHDA's loans and operating expenses are financed through the sale of tax-exempt and taxable bonds and notes to private investors, not from state tax revenues.  Proceeds of the bonds and notes are loaned at below-market interest rates to developers of rental housing, and also help to fund home mortgages and improvement loans. 

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

State Hospital Finance Authority

Marylee Davis, Ph.D. of East Lansing, professor of higher education administration at Michigan State University, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 1, 2010.  She succeeds Dorothy E. Deremo who has resigned.

Jayprakash B. Shah of Bloomfield Hills, vice president of Somat Engineering, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 1, 2010.  He succeeds Lois Shulman whose term has expired.

The State Hospital Finance Authority provides hospitals within the state with appropriate means to expand, enlarge and establish health care and other related facilities. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Travel Commission

Rochelle A. Cotey of Munising, executive director of Alger County Public Transportation, is reappointed for a term expiring August 20, 2012. 

Kenneth L. Hayward of Okemos, vice president of sales and marketing for the Grand Hotel, is reappointed to represent owners and operators of for-profit businesses from the private sector of travel, tourism, and recreation industry for a term expiring August 20, 2012. 

Arthur L. Tebo of Walloon Lake, retired executive from Boyne USA Resorts after 35 years of service, is reappointed to represent owners and operators of small businesses for a term expiring August 20, 2012. 

The Michigan Travel Commission is responsible for assisting Travel Michigan in developing a comprehensive, long-range vision for tourism.  Travel Michigan is a state agency that promotes tourism within the state of Michigan
