LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Dale N. Norton to the Michigan Commission of Agriculture. 

Mr. Norton, of Bronson, is a partner of Kendale Farm in Branch County.  A fourth-generation farmer, his farming operation consists of 2,500 acres of crops including corn, soybeans, and wheat, as well as a large livestock outfit.  In the mid 1980's Mr. Norton participated in the Michigan Agricultural Leadership Program (MALP) which provided him the opportunity to travel to China, Thailand, and South Korea to study different agriculture systems.  He is also a former chair of the Michigan Farm Bureau State Livestock and Dairy Committee.

Mr. Norton is appointed to represent Republicans for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  He succeeds William Pridgeon whose term has expired.

The Michigan Commission of Agriculture provides oversight and executive direction for the programs administered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and is responsible for approving all rules and regulations promulgated by the Department.

This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the senate.
