LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments to the Commission on Services to the Aging: 

Owen F. Bieber of Byron Center, retired president of the United Auto Workers.  Mr. Bieber is appointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring July 28, 2007.  He succeeds Donald Hoffman whose term has expired.

Albert M. Lewis of Grand Rapids, director of the Aquinas-Emeritus College, and rabbi for Temple Beth El in Traverse City.  Rabbi Lewis is appointed to represent independents for a term expiring July 28, 2007.  He succeeds Ann Shoop whose term has expired

The Commission on Services to the Aging advises the Office of Services to Aging, the Governor, and the Legislature on matters related to policies and programs for older and aging persons in Michigan.  The commission also promotes senior citizen interests within state government and communities, and administers the federal Older Americans Act programs and state-funded programs. 

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
