Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to Department of Agriculture Boards and Commissions

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced recent appointments and reappointments to the following agricultural boards and commissions:

Agricultural Marketing and Bargaining Board:

Timothy O. Brian of Interlochen, president of Smeltzer Orchard Company.  Mr. Brian is reappointed to represent processors for a term expiring September 1, 2008.

Michigan Bean Commission:

Jack C. Frank of Bay City, president of Frank Farms, Inc. Mr. Frank is appointed to represent District 1 growers for a term expiring December 31, 2007.  He succeeds Gene VanDriessche whose term has expired. 

Lowell F. Anderson of St. Louis, farmer and part owner of a bean processing plant.  Mr. Anderson is reappointed to represent District 2 growers for a term expiring December 31, 2007.

Fran K. Arbogast Carlson of Howard City, owner of Carlson-Arbogast Farm.  Ms. Carlson is reappointed to represent District 7 growers for a term expiring December 31, 2007.

Neal S. Gettel of Sebewaing, president of Gettel Grain, LLC and vice president of Stanley G. Gettel, Inc.  Mr. Gettel is reappointed to represent District 6 growers for a term expiring December 31, 2007.

Michigan Carrot Committee:

Steven D. Bouwkamp of Grant, plant manager, maintenance supervisor, and produce marketer for Van Singel Farms.  Mr. Bouwkamp is appointed to represent fresh growers for a term expiring October 31, 2005.  He succeeds Thomas Bury whose term has expired. 

Ryan P. Malburg of Hart, supervisor of G. L. Malburg Farms.  Mr. Malburg is appointed to represent process growers for a term expiring October 31, 2007.  He succeeds Neil Holladay whose term has expired. 

Glenn R. Vogel of Fremont, president of Vogel Produce, Inc.  Mr. Vogel is appointed to represent process growers for a term expiring October 31, 2005.  He succeeds Kenneth Oomen whose term has expired. 

Gary L. Brandt of Imlay City, president of Lindy’s Pre-Pak Carrots, Inc.  Mr. Brandt is reappointed to represent fresh growers for a term expiring October 31, 2007.

Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee:

Mark L. Bierlein of Reese, self-employed farmer and manager of Bierlein Seed, Inc.  Mr. Bierlein is appointed to represent District 5 growers for a term expiring September 23, 2006.

Richard A. Welden of Jonesville, owner and operator of Welden Farm.  Mr. Welden is appointed to represent District 2 growers for a term expiring September 23, 2006.

James B. Domagalski of Columbus, owner and operator of a crop farming operation.  Mr. Domagalski is reappointed to represent District 4 growers for a term expiring September 23, 2006.

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
