Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to Michigan Boxing Commission

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Michigan Boxing Commission: 

Albert J. Low of Pinckney, vice president and owner of Cutting Edge Unlimited training center in Detroit.  Mr. Low is appointed to represent licensees for a term expiring February 19, 2006.

Douglas J. Maskin of Bloomfield Hills, shareholder and trial attorney for Frank R. Langton & Associates, P.C.  Mr. Maskin is appointed to represent licensees for a term expiring February 19, 2006.

Rene Muniz of Lincoln Park, retired cast machine operator for National Steel Corporation.  Mr. Muniz is appointed to represent licensees for a term expiring February 19, 2007.

Earle L. Robinson of East Lansing, sports director for WKAR at Michigan State University.  Mr. Robinson is appointed to represent licensees for a term expiring February 19, 2009.

James K. Sype of Okemos, self-employed consultant.  Mr. Sype is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring February 19, 2009.

Robert S. Watson of Redford, retired health and physical education teacher for Detroit Public Schools.  Mr. Watson is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring February 19, 2007.

Bradley A. Wright of Troy, owner of B-Wright There Services home repair company.  Mr. Wright is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring February 19, 2006.

The Michigan Boxing Commission, created by the Michigan Boxing Regulatory Act, Public Act 403 of 2004, replaces the Michigan Athletic Board of Control.  The Commission licenses and regulates professional and amateur boxing, sparring, and wrestling exhibitions in the State of Michigan. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
