May 16, 2005

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Robert Donoghue as Judge of the 75th District Court in Midland county.

“Robert’s years of legal experience and extensive service to the Midland community make him an excellent choice for the bench, and I am confident he will serve the community well,” Granholm said.

Donoghue, of Midland, most recently served as an attorney and owner of the law firm Donoghue Law Office, PLLC, and as chief attorney of the Midland County Public Defender Association providing criminal representation for indigent defendants.  His participation in civic organizations includes the Midland Literacy Council, St. Brigid’s Parish Council, Boy Scouts of America Lake Huron Area Council, the Midland Big Brother-Big Sister Program and the Midland Community Relations Commission.

Previously, Donoghue has served as probation and parole officer for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, supervisor in the Enforcement Division of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and high school government teacher.

Donoghue earned his law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School and his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.

He replaces the late Judge Phillip Van Dam for a term expiring January 1, 2007.
