LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced the following appointment to the Council for Labor and Economic Growth:

John R. Hernandez of Lansing, interim state director for Telamon Corporation.  Mr. Hernandez is appointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2009.  He succeeds Sam R. Garcia whose term has expired.

Governor Granholm also announced the following reappointments to the Council:

Kenneth R. Baker of Bloomfield Hills, president and CEO of Altarum Institute.  Mr. Baker is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Theodore C. Blashak of Canton, vice president of the University of Phoenix – Michigan Campuses.  Mr. Blashak is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Harry J. Bonner, Sr. of Albion, executive director of Minority Program Services, Inc.  Mr. Bonner is reappointed to represent individuals and organizations that have experience with youth activities for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Enrique Carrillo of Bloomfield Hills, vice president of public affairs, and manager of Hispanic Initiative for Comerica Bank.  Mr. Carrillo is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Matthew Chambers of Portage, president and CEO of Three Rivers Health.  Mr. Chambers is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Richard J. Dandurand of Jackson, continuous learning director for Granger Construction Company.  Mr. Dandurand is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Robert J. Jacquart of Ironwood, owner/president of Jacquart Fabric Products.  Mr. Jacquart is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Jack A. Litzenberg of Flint, program director and senior program officer of the C.S. Mott Foundation.  Mr. Litzenberg is reappointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Myra A. Moreland of Birmingham, vice president of corporate affairs for Metaldyne.  Ms. Moreland is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Philip H. Power of Ann Arbor, chairman, founder and owner of HomeTown Communications Network, Inc.  Mr. Power is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Sharon A. Rivera of Canton, UAW International Representative.  Ms. Rivera is reappointed to represent labor organizations for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Trenda Rusher of Canton, executive director of the Washtenaw County Workforce Development and Community Action Boards.  Ms. Rusher is reappointed to represent individuals and organizations that have experience and expertise in the delivery of workforce investment activities for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Kester K. So of Okemos, attorney for Dickinson Wright, PLLC law firm.  Mr. So is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

John B. Voorhorst of Ann Arbor, vice president of Denso International America, Inc.  Mr. Voorhorst is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

Benjie A. Williams of Flint, center director of Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center.  Mr. Williams is reappointed to represent additional members for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

The Council for Labor and Economic Growth assesses trends and issues, develops strategies and acts as an ongoing strategic advising body that encourages and stimulates innovative public and private responses to workforce challenges.  Members work to develop policies and help implement programs that shape a flexible 21st century workforce that meets the needs of Michigan’s businesses and allows them to successfully compete in the global marketplace today and in the future.
