Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to Commission on Community Action and Economic Opportunity

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Commission on Community Action and Economic Opportunity: 

Karol J. Bolton of Adrian, Lenawee County Commissioner.  Ms. Bolton is appointed to represent elected public officials for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

Sheilah P. Clay of Farmington Hills, president and CEO of Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO).  Ms. Clay is appointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

William J. Dubord of Escanaba, executive director of Menominee-Delta-Schoolcraft Community Action Agency & Human Resources Authority, Inc.  Mr. Dubord is appointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

Gary W. Gilbert of Mecosta, executive director of Mid-Michigan Community Action Agency, Inc.  Mr. Gilbert is appointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

Sonia M. Harb of Dearborn, area director of Workforce Develop and Youth & Education for the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS).  Ms. Harb is appointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring May 31, 2008. 

Alicia E. Harrison of Saginaw, underserved populations advocate for the Underground Railroad.  Ms. Harrison is appointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

Marsha A. Kreucher of Jackson, CEO of Community Action Agency.   Ms. Kreucher is appointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

Tracey I. Nash of Gowen, student assistant/tutor for Montcalm Community College.  Ms. Nash is appointed to represent low income individuals for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

Eva L. Ozier of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County Commissioner.  Ms. Ozier is appointed to represent elected public officials for a term expiring May 31, 2008.     

Daniel J. Piepszowski of Detroit, vice president of programs for New Detroit, Inc.  Mr. Piepszowski is appointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring May 31, 2008.

Sonia M. Harb is also designated to serve as Chairperson of the commission, for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor. 
 
The Commission on Community Action and Economic Opportunity provides an opportunity for low income persons to actively participate in the development of policies and programs to reduce poverty.
 
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
