Governor Granholm Makes Judicial Appointments to the 53rd and 55th District Courts

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following judicial appointments:
 
Judge of the District Court for the 53rd Judicial District

Theresa M. Brennan of Brighton, most recently served as a lawyer in private practice.  Ms. Brennan is also involved in nonprofit and volunteer organizations, including the Runaway Shelter, Child Abuse Prevention Council Board of Directors, Livingston County Catholic Social Services Board of Directors, and The Arc of Michigan.  Ms. Brennan is appointed as judge of the District Court for the 53rd Judicial District for a term expiring at noon, January 1, 2007.  She succeeds the late Honorable Michael K. Hegarty.

The 53rd District serves Livingston County.

Judge of the District Court for the 55th Judicial District

Thomas P. Boyd of Okemos, most recently served as assistant attorney general as council for the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards.  He is also the former executive director of the Michigan Democratic Party, past president of the Post Oak PTA, Lansing Schools PTA council, and former co-chair of Citizens for Lansing Schools.  Mr. Boyd is appointed as Judge of the District Court for the 55th Judicial District for a term expiring at noon, January 1, 2007.  He succeeds the Honorable Pamela McCabe who has resigned.

The 55th District serves Ingham County, with the exception of the cities of Lansing and East Lansing.

 “Theresa and Tom have an abundance of legal experience and have demonstrated an enthusiasm for serving their communities,” Granholm said.  “They are excellent choices for the bench, and I am confident they will serve their districts well.”

These appointments are not subject to disapproval.
