LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced appointments and reappointments to the following boards: Michigan Tax Tribunal, State Community Corrections Board, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Board of Pharmacy, Board of Nursing, Board of Social Work, Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons, and State Board of Forensic Polygraph Examiners.

Michigan Tax Tribunal

John S. Gilbreath of Ann Arbor, attorney at Barr, Anhut & Gilbreath law firm.  Mr. Gilbreath is appointed to represent members at large for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  He succeeds Patricia Halm who has resigned.

Patricia L. Halm of Lansing.  Ms. Halm is appointed to represent attorneys for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  She succeeds Kimball R. Smith, III whose term has expired.

Judith R. Trepeck of West Bloomfield.  Ms. Trepeck is reappointed to represent certified public accountants for a term expiring June 30, 2009.

The Michigan Tax Tribunal hears appeals from taxpayers who are aggrieved by ad valorem property tax assessments, special assessments, equalization, allocation, and apportionment under the general property tax laws.  The tribunal also has jurisdiction over determinations issued by the Department of Treasury concerning income tax; sales, use and withholding taxes; single business tax; motor fuel tax; and intangible and inheritance tax.
 
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days. 

State Community Corrections Board

The Honorable Alfred M. Butzbaugh of Berrien Springs, judge of the 2nd Judicial Circuit Court.  Judge Butzbaugh is appointed to represent judges of circuit courts or recorders courts for a term expiring March 29, 2009.  He succeeds Nancy J. Grant whose term has expired.

Stuart J. Dunnings, III of Lansing, Ingham County prosecutor.  Mr. Dunnings is appointed to represent county prosecutors for a term expiring March 29, 2009.  He succeeds Norman Donker whose term has expired.

The Honorable Brigette Officer of Highland Park, judge of the 13th Judicial District Court.  Judge Officer is appointed to represent judges of district courts for a term expiring March 29, 2009.  She succeeds Louise Alderson whose term has expired.

Inez M. Brown of Flint, city clerk for the city of Flint.  Ms. Brown is reappointed to represent city government for a term expiring March 29, 2009.

The State Community Corrections Board advises the director of the Department of Corrections in developing goals, criteria, and guidelines for local governments in establishing community corrections programs.  It also determines grant guidelines for comprehensive corrections plans which are intended to provide safe, cost-effective alternatives to incarceration.

These appointments are subject to Articles V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee

Neil B. Dorfman of West Bloomfield, pharmacy manager at Rite Aid Pharmacy.  Mr. Dorfman is appointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 1, 2006.  He succeeds Edward J. Keating whose term has expired.

Erin E. Inman of Trufant, pharmacy director for the Spectrum Health United Memorial Kelsey and United campuses.  Ms. Inman is appointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 1, 2006.  She succeeds Robert Coffey whose term has expired.

The Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee advises the Department of Community Health on issues affecting prescription drug coverage for its various health care programs.
 
These appointments are not subject to disapproval.

Board of Pharmacy

Laura A. Shaw, R.Ph. of Waterford, vice president of pharmacy acquisitions for Rite Aid Corporation.  Ms. Shaw is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring June 30, 2009.

The Michigan Board of Pharmacy is responsible for the licensure and examination of pharmacists; licensure of pharmacies, manufacturers and wholesale distributors; and the regulation of drugs manufactured, distributed, prescribed, dispensed and administered in the state.
 
This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  The reappointment stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Board of Nursing

John H. Hale, III of Detroit, vice president of Fifth Third Bank.  Mr. Hale is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  He succeeds Ester L. Wyatt who has resigned.

Sandra M. Larson of Northville, attorney in private practice.  Ms. Larson is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Susan M. Johnson whose term has expired.

Brenda J. Lewis, L.P.N. of Muskegon, licensed practical nurse for DeBoers, Inc.  Ms. Lewis is appointed to represent licensed practical nurses for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  She succeeds Rosemarie A. DeLoof whose term has expired.

Nina A. Bugbee, R.N. of Flushing, president of International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local Union 332.  Ms. Bugbee is reappointed to represent registered professional nurses with a baccalaureate degree engaged in nursing practice or nursing administration for a term expiring June 30, 2009.

Amy M. Perry, R.N., M.S.N. of Ann Arbor, director of nursing administration systems for University of Michigan Hospitals Health Centers.  Ms. Perry is reappointed to represent registered professional nurses with a baccalaureate degree engaged in nursing practice or nursing administration for a term expiring June 30, 2009.

The Michigan Board of Nursing is responsible for the interpretation of licensure and examination of registered professional nurses, licensed practical nurses, and for the certification of nursing specialists.  The board also sets minimum standards of practice and assesses penalties for when those standards are not met and recommends licensure to schools that provide nursing programs.

Board of Social Work

Mark D. Smith of Grand Ledge, retired enforcement director of the Liquor Control Commission.  Mr. Smith is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  He succeeds Cathy M. Longo whose term has expired.
 
The Michigan Board of Social Work is responsible for the certification and registration of persons engaged in the social work profession.

Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons

Daniel C. Samson of Huntington Woods, vice president of brokerage for Sterling Group.  Mr. Samson is appointed to represent real estate brokers and salesperson sfor a term expiring June 30, 2009.  He succeeds Sally Bloom whose term has expired.

Michael M. Glasson of Flushing, real estate salesperson with Garrow-Loftis GMAC Real Estate.  Mr. Glasson is appointed to represent real estate brokers and salespersons for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  He succeeds Kathleen Dalton whose term has expired.

The Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons provides for the licensing and regulation of real state salespersons and real estate brokers, including anyone who acts as a real estate appraiser, real estate mortgage broker, building job broker, business chance broker, and/or engages in the sale of real estate as a principle vocation.

State Board of Forensic Polygraph Examiners

Steven R. Briney of Macomb, detective sergeant forensic polygraph examiner for the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.  Mr. Briney is appointed to represent public examiners for a term expiring May 15, 2009.  He succeeds Charles Allen whose term has expired.

David G. Curtis of Clark Lake, president of Corporate Intelligence Consultants, Inc.  Mr. Curtis is reappointed to represent private examiners for a term expiring May 15, 2009.

The Board of Forensic Polygraph Examiners is responsible for the certification of forensic polygraph examiners in the state.
