Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to Retirement Boards

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Michigan Judges’ Retirement Board and the Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement Board.

Michigan Judges’ Retirement Board

The Honorable Alton T. Davis of Grayling, judge of the Fourth Appellate District.  Judge Davis is appointed to represent judges for a term expiring March 31, 2009.  He succeeds the Honorable Judy A. Hartsfield who has resigned.
 
The Michigan Judges’ Retirement Board oversees the Judges Retirement System administration and provides for a retirement system for members of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Circuit Courts, District Courts and Probate Courts in Michigan.

Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement Board

Gary W. Allen of Mt. Pleasant, superintendent of Mt. Pleasant Schools.  Mr. Allen is reappointed to represent active school superintendents for a term expiring March 30, 2009.

Diana R. Osborn of Muskegon, dean of administrative services at Muskegon Community College.  Ms. Osborn is reappointed to represent active or retired non-certified support personnel for a term expiring March 30, 2009.

Martha K. Pichla of Sterling Heights, a teacher at Fraser Public Schools.  Ms. Pichla is reappointed to represent active classroom teachers for a term expiring March 30, 2009.

The Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement Board is responsible for the investigation of the service, compensation and other experiences of members and beneficiaries of the public school retirement system.  The board is charged with investing and distributing any or all the monies in the public school retirement fund.  Every five years the board must formulate a plan to direct the operation of the retirement funds.
 
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
