Granholm highlights latest benchmark in new job training program

LANSING – In her weekly radio address, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that MI Opportunity Partnership has identified 19,041 specific job vacancies and placed more than 6,266 citizens in good paying jobs across the state since spring.

The partnership is part Governor Granholm’s five-point plan to create jobs, restructure and diversify Michigan’s economy, change the state’s business tax structure, and expand access to higher education.

“These are the kinds of jobs that will never be outsourced, because they must be done right here in Michigan,” Granholm said.  “They are good paying positions with paychecks to support a family.”

MI Opportunity Partnership will put 30,000 unemployed Michigan citizens to work this year by matching them with and training them for existing job opportunities in Michigan.  Currently there are close to 90,000 job vacancies in Michigan in high-demand fields such as health care and the skilled trades.

Governor Granholm’s weekly radio address and podcast is an opportunity for her to talk directly to Michigan citizens about what state government is doing for them.  It is made possible through a partnership with WDBM-FM, ‘The Impact,’ at Michigan State University.

The Governor’s weekly address is released each Friday at 10:00 a.m. and may be heard on broadcast stations across the state through an affiliation with the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.  The address will also be available on the Governor’s website on Mondays as a podcast for general distribution to personal MP3 players and home computers.

Broadcasters Note: Governor Granholm’s radio address can be accessed through Sunday evening exclusively through the Members Only Page of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters website: www.michmab.com.
