LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will join the Detroit interfaith community this Friday during a one-hour, lunch-time prayer service at Straight Gate International Church in Detroit to observe the National Day of Prayer for victims of Hurricane Katrina and relief workers who are participating in the recovery and rebuilding effort.

“Prayer is a powerful way to show the victims of this tragedy that they have our love and our support,” Granholm said.  “In addition to all Michigan is doing to help evacuees on the ground, this is a way to show that we are there for them, whether it’s providing a safe place to stay, a warm meal or simply our heartfelt thoughts and prayers.”

The public is invited to this lunch-hour service hosted by Bishop Andrew Merritt of Straight Gate International Church.  Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the ecumenical service will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m.
The Governor, religious leaders of all faiths, and Metro Detroit civic leaders will participate in the service during the National Day of Prayer for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
