Paneque Named Director of Cabinet Affairs and Management Division

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Sergio Paneque as Director of the Cabinet Affairs and Management Division in the Executive Office.  Paneque is currently a special advisor in the Legal Division of the Governor’s office.

As Division Director, Paneque will work in conjunction with Teresa Bingman, Deputy Chief of Staff for Cabinet Affairs and Management, to oversee the day to day operations of the division.

Paneque’s duties as special advisor included advising senior staff members in the areas of finance, budget, personnel, and general state and office operations.  He also reviewed state administrative board agendas to ensure compliance with board policies, executive orders, and executive directives.
 
Paneque, 36, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction Management and Accounting from Michigan State University, and will receive his Juris Doctorate Degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in May of 2006.  He served as the chief accountant in the Office of Fiscal Management in the Attorney General’s Office under Granholm.  He was appointed Commissioner of the State Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs for a five year term.
 
Prior to his position in the Attorney General’s Office, Paneque worked in the Michigan Higher Education Student Loan Authority Office of Fiscal Affairs.
