LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Community Service Commission, the Advisory Council for Asian and Pacific American Affairs, and the Controlled Substances Advisory Commission:

Michigan Community Service Commission

Russell G. Mawby of Augusta, retired chairman emeritus of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.  Mr. Mawby is a Republican reappointed to represent businesses for a term expiring October 2, 2008.

Melonie Brook Colaianne of Northville, president of Masco Corporation Foundation.  Ms. Colaianne is a Republican appointed to represent individuals with experience in promoting service and volunteerism among older adults for a term expiring October 2, 2008.  She succeeds Nancy Lenz whose term has expired.

Donna M. Niester of Ft. Gratiot Township, CFO of Acheson Ventures, LLC.  Ms. Niester is an Independent appointed to represent businesses for a term expiring October 2, 2008.  She succeeds Meg Smith whose term has expired.

Marsha J. Smith of Traverse City, executive director of Rotary Charities of Traverse City.  Ms. Smith is an Independent appointed to represent national service programs for a term expiring October 2, 2008.  She succeeds Jessica Pellegrino whose term has expired.

Joseph V. Sowmick of Mt. Pleasant, public relations director with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan.  Mr. Sowmick is a Republican appointed to represent Native American tribes for a term expiring October 2, 2008.  He succeeds Rani D. Bahadur whose term has expired.

Laurie Stupak of Menominee, finance director for Stupak for Congress.  Ms. Stupak is a Democrat appointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities for a term expiring October 2, 2008.  She succeeds Vivian R. Pickard whose term has expired.

Larry A. Williamson of Grand Rapids, area vice-president for Comcast.  Mr. Williamson is a Republican appointed to represent businesses for a term expiring October 2, 2008.  He succeeds Donald Newport whose term has expired.

Eileen B. Wilson-Oyelaran of Kalamazoo, president of Kalamazoo College.  Ms. Wilson-Oyelaran is a Democrat appointed to represent local educators for a term expiring October 2, 2008.  She succeeds Patricia Ryan O’Day whose term has expired.

The Michigan Community Service Commission is a bipartisan state agency charged with funding and supporting programs to encourage Michigan residents to volunteer.  The commission is chaired by First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern.

Advisory Council for Asian and Pacific American Affairs

Guozhen Lu of Canton, tenured professor with the Wayne State University Mathematics Department.  Mr. Lu is appointed for a term expiring April 30, 2008.

Remiblanca B. Kuklewski of Grand Rapids, president of the West Michigan Filipino-American Association.  Ms. Kuklewski is appointed for a term expiring April 30, 2008.

Khanh-Van T. Nguyen of East Lansing, outreach coordinator for the Michigan State University Asian Studies Center.  Ms. Nguyen is appointed for a term expiring April 30, 2007.

Leslie E. Wong of Marquette, president of Northern Michigan University.  Mr. Wong is appointed for a term expiring April 30, 2008.

Ganesh V. Reddy of Okemos, director of business development for HTC Global Services, Inc.  Mr. Reddy is designated as vice-chairperson of the council for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.  He was originally appointed to the council in May for a term expiring April 30, 2009.

The Advisory Council for Asian and Pacific American Affairs is charged with serving in an advisory capacity to the Governor and alerting her to pertinent issues within the Asian and Pacific American community.  The council also makes recommendations regarding programs and policies for the betterment of Asian and Pacific American culture and accomplishments.

Controlled Substances Advisory Commission

Charles L. Blanchard of Haslett, professional healthcare representative for Pfizer, Inc.  Mr. Blanchard is reappointed to represent pharmaceutical manufacturers for a term expiring August 30, 2007.

Margherita P. Clark, R.N., M.S.N., of St. Johns, nursing careers department chair at Lansing Community College.  Ms. Clark is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Nursing for a term expiring August 30, 2007.

Suhair Farida, R.Ph. of West Bloomfield, pharmacy supervisor for CVS Corp.  Ms. Farida is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Pharmacy for a term expiring August 30, 2007.

James D. Grant, M.D. of Bloomfield Hills, physician for South Oakland Anesthesia Associates, P.C.  Dr. Grant is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Medicine for a term expiring August 30, 2007.

Rhonda J. Hennessy, D.D.S. of Northville, general dentist for Romulus Family Dental, P.C.  Dr. Hennessy is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Dentistry for a term expiring August 30, 2007.

Bradley E. Meisling of Kalamazoo, senior controlled substances consultant for Pfizer Corporation.  Mr. Meisling is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 30, 2007.  He succeeds William Renfrew whose term has expired.

Tara Long Scott, DPM of Southfield, president of the Foot & Heel Pain Institute of Michigan.  Dr. Scott is appointed to represent the Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery for a term expiring August 30, 2007.  She succeeds Terrence J. Emiley whose term has expired.

Douglas P. Vanator, D.O. of Olivet, osteopathic physician and surgeon in private practice.  Dr. Vanator is appointed to represent the Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine for a term expiring August 30, 2007.  He succeeds Richard E. Griffin whose term has expired.

Howard S. Wolpin of Franklin, president of Great Lakes Beverage.  Mr. Wolpin is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 30, 2007.  He succeeds James Collins, Ph.D. whose term has expired.  Mr. Wolpin is designated to serve as the chairperson of the commission for a term expiring August 30, 2007.

The Controlled Substances Advisory Commission is responsible for monitoring indicators of controlled substance abuse and diversion, and recommending a plan of action for overcoming such abuse and diversion.

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
