LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the State Tax Commission, the Municipal Bond Authority, the Michigan Boxing Commission, and the Michigan Board of Pharmacy:

State Tax Commission

Frederick W. Morgan of Riverview, former chief assessor for the city of Detroit.  Mr. Morgan is appointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring September 13, 2011.  He succeeds Robert Lupi whose term has expired.

The State Tax Commission has general supervision of the administration of the property tax laws and renders assistance and advice to assessors as necessary.  The commission also serves on the State Board of Assessors, which is responsible for assessing certain state-assessed properties such as telephone companies and railroads.
 
Michigan Municipal Bond Authority

Gary D. Hawks of Okemos, retired vice president of community development for Davenport University.  Mr. Hawks is appointed to represent residents of the state of Michigan for a term expiring January 1, 2008.  He succeeds M. David Campbell, II whose term has expired.

The authority provides an alternative source of financing for infrastructure projects and low cost access to the public finance market to Michigan local units of government and schools.

Michigan Boxing Commission

Kevin D. Moore of Dearborn Heights, president of Truck Drivers Local Union No. 299 affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.  Mr. Moore is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring February 19, 2007.  He succeeds the late Robert S. Watson.

The Michigan Boxing Commission, created by the Michigan Boxing Regulatory Act, Public Act 403 of 2004, licenses and regulates professional and amateur boxing, sparring, and wrestling exhibitions in the state of Michigan.

Michigan Board of Pharmacy

Dale E. Cole of Ann Arbor, executive director of Chelsea Retirement Communities.  Mr. Cole is appointed to represent the general pubic for a term expiring June 30, 2007.  He succeeds Pam Byrnes who has resigned.

Leigh A. Kegerreis of Monroe, welder for Ford Motor Corporation.  Ms. Kegerreis is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  She succeeds Gretchen Pretty whose term has expired.

The Michigan Board of Pharmacy is responsible for the licensure and examination of pharmacists; licensure of pharmacies, manufacturers and wholesale distributors; and the regulation of drugs manufactured, distributed, prescribed, dispensed and administered in the state.
 
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
