Granholm Fills Vacancies in Wayne County Circuit Court

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointments of Megan M. Brennan and Charlene M. Elder as judges of the 3rd Circuit Court serving Wayne County.
 
Brennan, of Grosse Pointe Park, most recently served as assistant attorney general with the Michigan Department of Attorney General Labor Division.  Prior to that, she served as a lawyer in private practice.  Brennan is a member of the Northeast Guidance Center and Assistance League, and her professional affiliations include the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, the Incorporated Society of Irish-American Lawyers, and the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society.
 
Ms. Brennan earned her law degree from Wayne State University Law School and received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.
 
She replaces Judge Susan Bieke Neilson who has resigned.
 
Elder, of Dearborn, most recently served as city of Dearborn magistrate for the 19th District Court and as a lawyer in private practice.  Elder’s participation in civic organizations includes the Dearborn Rotary Club, the Seeds of Peace, the Arab-American Institute, the Islamic Center of America, the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, and the Alliance for a Safer, Greater Detroit.
 
Ms. Elder earned her law degree from Detroit College of Law and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
 
She replaces Judge Edward M. Thomas who has resigned.
 
Both terms expire January 1, 2007.
 
These appointments are not subject to disapproval.
