LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointment to the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and the Agricultural Marketing and Bargaining Board:
 
Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards

Doreen E. Olko of Lake Orion, chief of police for the Auburn Hills Police Department.  Chief Olko is appointed to represent individuals submitted by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police for a term expiring November 1, 2007.  She succeeds Jeffrey Werner who resigned from the board after retiring as chief of the Bloomfield Hills Police Department.

The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards provides oversight for all law enforcement training funds and criminal justice training funds in Michigan.  The commission’s main focus is on professionalism, formal in-service training, and the number of officers receiving training.  The commission is also responsible for instituting law enforcement training standards, implementing a web-based information system available to all law enforcement members, and awarding training grants that advance its objectives.
 
Agricultural Marketing and Bargaining Board

Arthur J. Lister, Jr. of Ludington, farm manager of Lister Orchards, Inc.  Mr. Lister is appointed to represent Democrats and farmers for a term expiring September 1, 2006.  He succeeds the late Arthur J. Lister, Sr.

Jody Kay Meagher of Bay City, senior human resource representative for General Motors – Powertrain.  Ms. Meagher is reappointed to represent Republicans and the general public for a term expiring September 1, 2009.

The Agricultural Marketing and Bargaining Board was created by Public Act 344 of 1972, which called for the determination of appropriate definitions of bargaining units for an agricultural commodity.  The bipartisan board administers accreditation procedures, designates members of the bargaining unit annually, implements arbitration procedures, and protects the rights of both growers and handlers against unfair practices.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
