LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Certificate of Need Commission, the Committee on Pain and Symptom Management, the Groundwater Conservation Advisory Council, and the Board of Professional Surveyors:
 
Certificate of Need Commission

Marc D. Keshishian, M.D of Farmington Hills, vice president and medical director of clinical affairs for Blue Care Network.  Dr. Keshishian is appointed to represent Democrats and nonprofit health care corporations operating pursuant to the Nonprofit Health Care Corporation Reform Act for a term expiring January 1, 2008.  He succeeds Renee Turner Bailey whose term has expired.

Adam A. Miller of Grosse Pointe Park, senior benefit consultant with the International Union, UAW.  Mr. Miller is appointed to represent Democrats and organized labor unions for a term expiring January 1, 2009.  He succeeds James Maitland whose term has expired.

Kathie L. VanderPloeg-Hoekstra of Portage, chairwoman of the board and CEO for Ship-Pac, Inc.  Ms. VanderPloeg-Hoekstra is appointed to represent Republicans and companies not self-insured for health coverage for a term expiring January 1, 2009.  She succeeds James Delaney whose term has expired.

Bradley N. Cory of Marquette, administrator of the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.  Mr. Cory is reappointed to represent Republicans and nursing homes for a term expiring April 9, 2009.

Michael A. Sandler, M.D. of West Bloomfield, senior staff physician of diagnostic radiology with Henry Ford Health Systems.  Dr. Sandler is reappointed to represent Democrats and individuals licensed under part 170 of the Public Health Code to engage in the practice of medicine for a term expiring April 9, 2009.

The bipartisan Certificate of Need Commission reviews and determines the need for new institutional health services, facilities, or organizations being offered or developed in Michigan.
 
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Committee on Pain and Symptom Management

Carmen R. Green, M.D. of Ann Arbor, associate professor, attending physician, and medical director of acute pain services with the University of Michigan Health System Department of Anesthesiology.  Dr. Green is appointed to represent the University of Michigan School of Medicine for a term expiring July 1, 2007.  She succeeds Vildan Mullin whose term has expired.

Frenchie D. McCall of Farmington Hills, retired clinical social worker.  Ms. McCall is appointed to represent individuals who have been diagnosed as chronic pain sufferers for a term expiring July 1, 2007.  She succeeds Valerie Kinsora whose term has expired.

Karen S. Ogle, M.D. of East Lansing, professor with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.  Dr. Ogle is appointed to represent Michigan State University College of Human Medicine for a term expiring July 1, 2007.  She succeeds Gregg K. VandeKieft whose term has expired.

Maria J. Silveira, M.D., M.A., M.P.H. of Ann Arbor, assistant professor with the University of Michigan Division of General Medicine.  Dr. Silveira is appointed to represent the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Association for a term expiring July 1, 2007.  She succeeds Mary M. Giobanni whose term has expired.

Robert J. Zalenski, M.D., M.A. of Birmingham, professor, director of clinical research, and director of the Center to Advance Palliative Care Excellence with the Wayne State University Department of Emergency Medicine.  Dr. Zalenski is appointed to represent Wayne State University School of Medicine for a term expiring July 1, 2007.  He succeeds Steven M. Wiener whose term has expired.

The Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management is charged with addressing issues pertaining to pain and symptom management, holding public hearings to gather information from the general public, and making recommendations to the Legislature on pain and symptom management issues.
 
These appointments are not subject to disapproval.
 
Groundwater Conservation Advisory Council

Sumedh Bahl of Ann Arbor, manager of water treatment services with the city of Ann Arbor. Mr. Bahl is appointed to represent municipal water suppliers for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.

Richard O. Bowman of Grand Rapids, executive director of the Michigan Council of Trout Unlimited.  Mr. Bowman is appointed to represent statewide conservation organizations for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.

The Groundwater Conservation Advisory Council is charged with studying the sustainability of the state’s groundwater use and whether the state should provide additional oversight of groundwater withdrawals.

Board of Professional Surveyors

Catherine M. DeDecker of Washington, survey project manager for Spalding, DeDecker Associates, Inc.  Ms. DeDecker is appointed to represent professional surveyors for a term expiring March 31, 2009.  She succeeds Lori E. Beyer who has resigned.

Robert A. Stanford of Livonia, staff planner for the Livingston County Department of Planning.  Mr. Stanford is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 31, 2009.  He succeeds Diane Adams whose term has expired.

Ronnie M. Lester of Mason, owner and sole proprietor of Polaris Surveying Company.  Mr. Lester is reappointed to represent professional surveyors for a term expiring March 31, 2009.

Carl F. Shangraw of Rockford, associate professor of surveying engineering for Ferris State University.  Mr. Shangraw is reappointed to represent professional surveyors for a term expiring March 31, 2009.

The Board of Professional Surveyors provides for the registration of persons practicing surveying, sets qualifications for registrants, and prescribes penalties for violations of the Occupational Code, 1980 PA 299.
