LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the designation of Donald L. Allen director of the Office of Drug Control Policy. 

“In his years of service as a prosecutor, Don was consistently tough on crime, while still remaining fair and objective,” Granholm said.  “He is dedicated to making a safer Michigan for our families and our children.”

Mr. Allen, of Lansing, most recently served as deputy legal counsel to Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.  Prior to that, he worked with the Michigan Department of Attorney General, serving from 1988 to 2005 as an assistant attorney general in various capacities, including work with the health care fraud, corrections, and revenue divisions. 

Mr. Allen is designated to serve as director of the Office of Drug Control Policy for a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.

The Office of Drug Control Policy is part of the Michigan Department of Community Health and seeks to improve the quality of life for Michigan citizens by reducing the use and sale of illegal drugs and drug-related violence.  It strives to accomplish its goals through education, prevention, treatment, and law enforcement initiatives.

This designation is not subject to disapproval.
