Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to EMU, WMU Boards of Control

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Eastern Michigan University Board of Control and the Western Michigan University Board of Control:
 
Eastern Michigan University Board of Control

Ismael Ahmed of Dearborn, executive director of the Arab Community for Economic and Social Services.  Mr. Ahmed is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  He succeeds Jan A. Brandon who has resigned.

Gary D. Hawks of Okemos, former Interim State Superintendent for Public Instruction and retired vice president for community development at Davenport University.  Mr. Hawks is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2010.  He succeeds Sharon J. Rothwell who has resigned.

Francine Parker of St. Clair Shores, president and CEO of Health Alliance Plan.  Ms. Parker is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2014.  She succeeds Joseph E. Antonini whose term has expired.

James F. Stapleton of Ann Arbor, president and CEO of B&R Consultants.  Mr. Stapleton is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  He succeeds Karen Quinlan Valvo who has resigned.

Floyd Clack of Flint, former Michigan state representative and retired teacher and counselor of Flint Community Schools.  Mr. Clack is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2014.

Western Michigan University Board of Control

Jeanne H. Carlson of Novi, president and CEO of Blue Care Network.  Ms. Carlson is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2014.  She succeeds James P. Holden whose term has expired.

William D. Johnston of Portage, chairman, president and CEO of Greenleaf Trust.  Mr. Johnston is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2014.  He succeeds Peter L. Asertis whose term has expired.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
