Governor Granholm Appoints Kalm Executive Director of Michigan Gaming Control Board

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Richard S. Kalm as executive director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
 
Kalm, of Romeo, currently serves as chief of staff for the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, where he has more than 30 years experience.  Prior to serving as chief of staff, he held the ranks of deputy sheriff, lieutenant, sergeant, corporal, captain, and division commander. 
 
Kalm earned his bachelor's degree from Wayne State University.  His professional training includes the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the Criminal Justice Leadership Academy at Lansing Community College, and Critical Incident Management at Northwestern University.  He is a member of the Southeastern Michigan Chiefs of Police, the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers, the Michigan Antiterrorism Task Force, and the Detroit Chamber of Commerce Tourism Action Group.
 
Kalm is appointed for a six-year term.  He succeeds Daniel J. Gustafson, who has resigned.
 
The Michigan Gaming Control Board is responsible for overseeing the licensing and control of casino gaming operations, manufacturers of gaming devices, and gaming employees in the state.  The board employs a mission to ensure the conduct of fair and honest gaming to protect the interests of the citizens of the state of Michigan.  The executive director performs duties assigned by the five-member board related to the regulation of three casinos in Detroit and supervises the employees of the board.
