Governor Granholm's Statement on Agreement to Temporarily Avert State Trooper Layoffs

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement regarding the agreement reached to temporarily avert State Police Trooper layoffs:

"I am pleased that today we have reached an agreement with the Michigan State Police Troopers Association that will temporarily prevent the layoffs of 29 State Police Troopers. I am proud of the selflessness of the state troopers for their continued willingness to make sacrifices during times of fiscal uncertainty.

"While we are pleased these troopers will continue to be on the job Sunday protecting Michigan residents, this is just a temporary solution. With a budget crisis in the current fiscal year and next, we will look forward to additional solutions needed to eliminate layoffs come June 1."
