Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Advisory Council on Arab and Chaldean American Affairs

Mona Sayed-Armstrong of Fort Gratiot Township, senior assistant prosecuting attorney with the St. Clair County Prosecutor's Office, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2011.  She succeeds Mokbel K. Chedid whose term has expired. 

Nabih H. Ayad of Canton, sole practitioner of Law Offices of Nabih Ayad & Associates P.C., is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2011.  He succeeds Imad S. Hamad whose term has expired.

Ramzi M. Dalloo of Troy, president of R.M. Dalloo Enterprises, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2011.  He succeeds Ismael Ahmed whose term has expired.

Nadia Fadel of Dearborn Heights, director of policy and community affairs of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2010.  She succeeds Rana A. Abbas whose term has expired.

Mary A. Zatina of Detroit, senior vice president of government relations, corporate planning, and communications of Oakwood Healthcare, Inc., is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2011.  She succeeds Abed E. Hammoud whose term has expired.

The council is charged with serving in an advisory capacity to the governor, alerting her to pertinent issues within the largest Arab American and Chaldean American community outside of the Middle East.  The council will also make recommendations about programs and policies for the betterment of Arab and Chaldean Americans in Michigan and will help promote public awareness of Arab and Chaldean culture and accomplishments.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Board of Real Estate Appraisers
 
Marshall A. Brulez of Flat Rock, vice president and group manager for Citizens Financial Group of Charter One Bank, is appointed to represent certified general real estate appraisers employed by a lending institution for a term expiring June 30, 2010.

The Board of Real Estate Appraisers provides for the licensure of state licensed and state certified real estate appraisers and real estate valuation specialists.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Early Stage Venture Investment Corporation

Thomas C. Kinnear of Ann Arbor, the Eugene Applebaum professor of Entrepreneurial Studies and professor of marketing at the University of Michigan, is reappointed to represent statewide organizations exempt from taxation under 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) of the internal revenue code for a term expiring June 13, 2010. 

The Michigan Early Stage Venture Investment Corporation Board of Directors works to promote a healthy economic climate by fostering job creation, retention, and expansion through the promotion of investment in venture capital businesses specializing in early stage and seed investments.  The Venture Michigan Fund invests only in venture capital companies that have a significant presence in Michigan, and focuses on companies that will invest in Michigan-based start-up companies that are engaged in research, technology, and new product development. 

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Upper Peninsula State Fair Board of Managers                                                                              

Vickie L. Micheau of Gladstone, executive director of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 30, 2012. 

The Upper Peninsula State Fair Board of Managers is responsible for controlling the lands and properties of the state for the purpose of holding and conducting an agricultural and industrial state fair in the Upper Peninsula.  

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Soybean Marketing Program Committee

Benjamin R. Chaffin of Ithaca, owner of Chaffin Farms, is reappointed to represent District 7 growers for a term expiring September 23, 2010. 

George J. Zmitko of Owosso, private farm owner, is reappointed to represent District 6 growers for a term expiring September 23, 2010. 

The committee works to improve the economic position of Michigan soybean growers by aiding the industry through research and development, consumer education, and promotion and advertising programs.

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Corn Marketing Committee

Edward T. Breitmeyer of Buckley, farmer at Breitmeyer Farms, is appointed to represent District 9 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2010.  He succeeds Frank J. Lipinski whose term has expired.

Richard L. Dobbins of Concord, president of North Concord Farms, is appointed to representing District 5 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2010.  He succeeds Bruce D. Noel whose term has expired.

Larry M. Nobis of St. Johns, owner and partner of Nobis Dairy Farms, is appointed to represent District 6 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2010.  He succeeds Scott J. Lonier whose term has expired.

The program was designed to increase the utilization of Michigan corn through foreign and domestic market development, promotion, and research. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
