Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Board of Ethics

Frederick P. Dillingham, a Republican of Fowlerville, executive director of the Economic Development Council of Livingston County and former State Representative and State Senator, is reappointed for a term expiring February 7, 2012. 

Frank J. Kelley, a Democrat of Lansing, attorney with Kelley Cawthorne and former Michigan attorney general, is reappointed for a term expiring February 7, 2012.

Paul M. Yedwab, an independent of Commerce Township, rabbi of Temple Israel, the state's largest Jewish congregation located in West Bloomfield, is reappointed for a term expiring February 7, 2012.

The Board of Ethics, a bipartisan entity, is authorized to receive citizens' complaints concerning alleged unethical conduct by a public officer or employee and to inquire into the circumstances surrounding those allegations.  

These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs
 
George A. Bayard, II of Kentwood, owner of the Bayard Gallery of Fine African American Art & Books in Grand Rapids.  Mr. Bayard is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2010.   

David O. Egner of Novi, president and CEO of the Hudson-Webber Foundation.  Mr. Egner is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2010.   

Amanda VanDusen of Pleasant Ridge, principal of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC law firm, is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2010.   

Nheena Weyer Ittner of Marquette, director of the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum, is reappointed for a term expiring September 1, 2010.

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs serves to encourage, develop and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative and cultural activity in Michigan.

These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Board of Dentistry

Timothy R. Schmakel, D.D.S., M.D. of Bloomfield, oral and maxillofacial surgeon with Timothy Schmakel D.D.S., M.D., P.C., is appointed to represent dentists with health profession specialty certification for a term expiring June 30, 2011.  He succeeds Martin J. Tuck whose term has expired.

Charlene M. Snow of Detroit, mediator for Charlene Snow Facilitative Mediation, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2011.  She succeeds Verne M. Primack whose term has expired.

Craig W. Spencer, D.D.S. of East Lansing, owner and operator of Craig W. Spencer, D.D.S., is appointed to represent dentists for a term expiring June 30, 2011. He succeeds Amy C. Parker whose term has expired.

Charlotte J. Wyche of Chelsea, retired associate professor of dental hygiene at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, is appointed to represent dental hygienists for a term expiring June 30, 2011.  She succeeds Jane F. Halaris whose term has expired.

Jo Ann Buchheister of Troy, dental assisting instructor at Wayne County Community College and president of the Macomb Dental Education Center, is reappointed to represent dental assistants for a term expiring June 30, 2011.

Solomon K. Pesis, D.D.S. of Milford, president and managing partner of Pesis Dental Group, reappointed to represent dentists for a term expiring June 30, 2011.

The Michigan Board of Dentistry is responsible for the licensure and examination of persons prior to their entry into the practice of dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental assisting in Michigan, and for the certification of dental specialists.

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Investment Advisory Committee

Glenn P. Murray of Bingham Farms, founder and president of GPM Holdings, Inc., is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 15, 2010.  He succeeds Robert E. Swaney whose term has expired.

The Investment Advisory Committee reviews investments, goals, and objectives of the State's retirement funds and may submit recommendations.  By a majority vote, it may direct the state treasurer to dispose of any holding it sees as not suitable for the fund to be involved with it, or, with unanimous votes direct the state treasurer to make specific investments.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
