Broadcast scheduled for March 19 at 8 p.m.
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will talk with Michigan citizens about the state's economy in a televised town hall on Wednesday, March 19. The broadcast will be live at 8 p.m. on the state's six NBC affiliates.
The stations scheduled to broadcast the town hall are WDIV Local 4 in Detroit, WOOD-TV8 in Grand Rapids, WEYI-TV NBC25 in Saginaw, WILX-TV10 in Lansing, WPBN/WTOM TV 7&4 in Traverse City, and WLUC-TV6 in Marquette.
"Michigan's economy has been challenged like no other state in the nation, and I am looking forward to talking with citizens on how we can move our state forward," Granholm said. "I am grateful to the NBC affiliates for their generosity in hosting and broadcasting a town hall on this very important issue."
The town hall will originate from WOOD-TV8 studios in Grand Rapids and will be moderated by two veteran political reporters: Devin Scillian from WDIV and Rick Albin from WOOD. It will include citizens from around the state who will be selected by the television stations to be a part of the studio audience.
Speaking on behalf of the NBC affiliates, WOOD-TV8 News Director Patti McGettigan said that the town hall is being presented as a public service to the citizens of Michigan who have seen their way of life threatened by the state's struggling economy.
"We believe there is great value in a public discussion with the governor concerning her plans for moving Michigan forward, and we are proud to help provide citizens across the state the opportunity to tune in at the same time. We are sure discussions will continue at dinner tables and coffee shops in the days that follow."
