Michigan Cherry Marketing Program Committee

Kurt B. Dowd of Hartford, farm manager for Dowd Orchards, Inc., is reappointed to represent tart cherry growers in District 3 for a term expiring February 1, 2011. 

John P. Bull of Manistee, owner of Manistee Orchards, Inc., is appointed to represent District 1 tart cherry growers for a term expiring February 1, 2011.   

Paul D. Hubbell of Williamsburg, partner and owner of Orchard View Farms, is reappointed to represent District 1 sweet cherry growers for a term expiring February 1, 2011.

Michael R. VanAgtmael of Hart, president of VanAgtmael & Sons, Inc., is reappointed to represent District 2 tart cherry growers for a term expiring February 1, 2011.

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Elaine M. Brown of Laingsburg, executive director of Michigan Integrated Food and Farming Systems (MIFFS), is appointed to represent sustainable agriculture or sustainable agricultural development for a term expiring October 31, 2011.

James E. Byrum of Onondaga, president of the Michigan Agri-Business Association, is appointed to represent Michigan agricultural organizations for a term expiring October 31, 2010.

Patricia Cantrell of Beulah, program director of the Michigan Land Use Institute, is appointed to represent sustainable agriculture for a term expiring October 31, 2008.

Lydia R. Gutierrez of Dearborn, president of the Hacienda Mexican Foods LLC, is appointed to represent food processors for a term expiring October 31, 2010.

Michael W. Hamm of Mason, C.S. Mott chair of sustainable agriculture with Michigan State University, is appointed to represent institutions of higher education for a term expiring October 31, 2011.

James L. Herbert, Jr. of Lansing, chief executive office of Neogen Corporation, is appointed to represent the non-food manufacturer sector for a term expiring October 31, 2009.

Mattie M. Jordan-Woods of Kalamazoo, executive director of the Northside Association for Community Development, is appointed to represent community-based urban development activities for a term expiring October 31, 2009.

Jane L. Marshall of Lansing, currently on leave from the Food Bank Council of Michigan, is appointed to represent anti-hunger organizations for a term expiring October 31, 2011.

Kristen M. Misiak of Traverse City, food service director for Traverse City Area Public Schools, is appointed to represent K-12 schools for a term expiring October 31, 2008.

Daniel H. Reeves of Dearborn, executive vice president of the Associated Food Dealers of Michigan, is appointed to represent food retailers for a term expiring October 31, 2009.

Todd J. Regis of Lansing, legislative and political director for United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951, is appointed to represent organized labor for a term expiring October 31, 2011.

Dennis J. West of Marquette, president of Northern Initiatives, is appointed to represent rural development activities for a term expiring October 31, 2009.

Todd S. Wickstrom of Ann Arbor, co-founder of Heritage Foods USA and co-owner of Mercury Coffee Bar, is appointed to represent the restaurant sector for a term expiring October 31, 2010.

Wayne H. Wood of Marlette, president of the Michigan Farm Bureau, is appointed to represent Michigan agriculture organizations for a term expiring October 31, 2010.

Malik K. Yakini of Detroit, executive director of Nsoroma Institute Public School Academy and owner of Black Star Community Book Store, is appointed to represent sustainable agriculture for a term expiring October 31, 2008.

The Michigan Food Policy Council was established by Executive Order 2007-44.  The council's goals include expanding businesses and jobs across food-related sectors in the state, and increasing access to fresh and healthy Michigan-grown foods for school children, low-income families, at-risk seniors, and inner-city residents.  The council will also work on promoting the purchase and consumption of Michigan-grown and Michigan-processed foods and identifying strategies to enhance connections between Michigan growers and Michigan food outlets.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board

Lynnette J. Rhodes of Haslett, president of L & S Associates, is appointed to represent qualified businesses or persons with business, technology, or financial experience related to competitive-edge technology for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  She succeeds A. David Canter who has resigned.

Created as an independent entity within the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board oversees the competitive grants and loans to Michigan institutions of higher education, Michigan research institutions, and Michigan nonprofit corporations for competitive-edge technology projects. 

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC)

Carolyn A. Bloodworth of Jackson, director of corporate giving for Consumers Energy, is appointed to represent business for a term expiring October 2, 2010. She succeeds Kenneth Whipple who has resigned.

Jason M. Hoskins of Detroit, Eastern Michigan University student, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring October 2, 2010.  He succeeds Shaun M. VanHorn whose term has expired.

The MCSC is a bipartisan state agency charged with funding and supporting programs to encourage Michigan residents to volunteer.  The commission is chaired by First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern.  

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Board of Mechanical Rules

Lawrence H. Hale II of Detroit, president and CEO of Hale Contracting, Inc., is reappointed to represent hydronic heating and cooling and process piping for a term expiring October 1, 2011. 

Mark D. Mangione of Muskegon, assistant business manager of Western Michigan Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Service Trades Local Union 174 is reappointed to represent specialty work area for a term expiring October 1, 2011. 

Michael E. Ogletree of Detroit, chief of mechanical inspections for the city of Detroit building and safety engineering department, is reappointed to represent chief mechanical inspectors of a government subdivision for a term expiring October 1, 2011. 

George B. Shields of Lansing, chief mechanical inspector for the city of Lansing, is reappointed to represent chief mechanical inspectors of a government subdivision for a term expiring October 1, 2011. 

Christopher J. Stockwell of Frankenmuth, assistant vice president and project manager of U.S. Sheet Metal, Inc., is reappointed to represent ductwork for a term expiring October 1, 2011.

The Board of Mechanical Rules was created to make recommendations to the state construction code commission on the promulgation of rules necessary for the safe design, construction, installation, alteration, servicing, and inspection of heating, cooling, ventilating, and refrigerating equipment.   

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
