Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

State Boundary Commission

Ruth Ann Jamnick of Ypsilanti, supervisor of the Charter Township of Ypsilanti, is reappointed for a term expiring November 15, 2010.

The State Boundary Commission has the authority for annexation, incorporation, and consolidation processes involving local units of government.  

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

State Construction Code Commission
 
Clifton "Jack" Lewis of North Branch, barrier free design technical advisor for the Construction Code Authority, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring January 31, 2012. 

Nelson C. McMath of Ann Arbor, president of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 9, is reappointed to represent organized labor for a term expiring January 31, 2012. 

Sean P. O'Neil of South Lyon, planning director of the White Lake Township Planning Department, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring January 31, 2012. 

The State Construction Code Commission prepares and promulgates the state construction code that governs the construction, use, and occupation of buildings and structures. The commission is also charged with adding, amending, and/or rescinding rules to update the code at least once every three years in order to coincide with the national code change cycle.

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Manufactured Housing Commission

Pete L. Hennard of Prescott, Ogemaw county commissioner, is appointed to represent elected officials of local governments for a term expiring May 9, 2010.  He succeeds Kevin M. Gillette whose term has expired.

The Manufactured Housing Commission is responsible for establishing uniform policy relating to all phases of manufactured housing businesses, manufactured housing parks, and seasonal manufactured housing parks.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Veterans' Facilities Board of Managers                                                                              

Richard E. LaFave of Gwinn, former math teacher at Gwinn High School, is reappointed to represent Veterans of Foreign Wars for a term expiring February 28, 2014.

The Michigan Veterans' Facilities Board of Managers, created by Public Act 152 of 1895, exercises certain regulatory and governance authority regarding admission and member affairs at Michigan's two veteran's homes.  They also represent the interest of the veterans' community in both advisory and advocacy roles.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Health Information Technology Commission

Kenneth D. Theis of St. Johns, director of the Michigan Department of Information Technology, is appointed for a term expiring August 3, 2008.  He succeeds Teresa M. Takai who has resigned.

The Health Information Technology Commission facilitates and promotes the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of an interoperable health care information infrastructure in this state.

This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports

Daniel G. Mulhern of Lansing, chair of the Michigan Community Service Commission, is designated to continue serving as the honorary vice-chairperson of the council for a term expiring June 6, 2009.

Kimberlydawn Wisdom, M.D., M.S. of Southfield, Michigan surgeon general, is designated to continue serving as the honorary chairperson of the council for a term expiring June 6, 2009.

The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports is charged with coordinating and developing a statewide physical fitness and health program.  The council has undertaken a number of initiatives and partnered with several organizations to carry out their goals.  Some notable events are the annual "Walk to School Day" and partnering with the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association for "Walk Michigan."   

These designations are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
