Granholm Announces Appointments to Central Michigan University, Ferris State University Boards of Control

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the boards of control for Central Michigan University and Ferris State University:

Central Michigan University Board of Control

John D. Hurd of Munith, former superintendent and president of Cabrillo Community College District, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2016.  He succeeds John G. Kulhavi whose term has expired.

Sarah R. Opperman of Midland, vice president of government affairs and public policy of The Dow Chemical Company, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2016.  She succeeds Jeffrey R. Caponigro whose term has expired.

Ferris State University Board of Control

Alisha M. Baker of Mount Clemens, customer service manager of DuPont Automotive Finishes, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2016.  She succeeds Gary L. Granger whose term has expired.

Arthur L. Tebo of Walloon Lake, retired executive of Boyne USA Resorts, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2016.

The duties of university boards of control include general supervision of the university, control of direction of all expenditures from university funds, the right to sue and be sued, and to adopt a seal and to alter if desired.

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
