LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following judicial appointments:

5th District Probate Court

Charles Nebel of Munising, most recently partner with Nebel & Nebel law firm and founding member of the Alger/Schoolcraft Substance Abuse Treatment Court, is appointed as judge of the 5th District Probate Court, which serves Alger and Schoolcraft counties, for a term expiring January 1, 2011.  He replaces Judge William Carmody who was recently elected judge of the 11th Circuit Court.  Nebel earned his law degree from the Detroit College of Law and received his bachelor's degree from Albion College. 

Houghton County Probate Court

Fraser Strome of Houghton, most recently prosecuting attorney for Houghton County and adjunct criminal justice instructor with Finlandia University, is appointed as judge of the Houghton County Probate Court for a term expiring January 1, 2011.  He replaces Judge Charles Goodman who was recently elected judge of the 12th Circuit Court.  Strome earned his law degree from Valparaiso University and received his bachelor's degree from Spring Arbor University. 

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
