LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:     

State Teacher Tenure Commission

Patricia Cole of Wyandotte, superintendent for the School District of the City of Wyandotte Public Schools, is appointed to represent superintendents of schools for a term expiring August 31, 2013.  She succeeds Gerald D. Dawkins who has resigned.

Ritschard Homberg of Bloomfield Hills, president and general manager of Detroit Public Television, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 31, 2013.  He succeeds Sharon Peters whose term has expired.

Dirk Zuschlag of Wixom, secondary teacher at Waterford Kettering High School, is reappointed to represent classroom instructors for a term expiring August 31, 2013.

The State Teacher Tenure Commission renders decisions on appeals by teachers who contest decisions made by their local school boards concerning their tenure rights.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Midwestern Higher Education Commission

David Eisler of Big Rapids, president of Ferris State University, is reappointed to represent members at large in the field of higher education for a term expiring March 8, 2013.

The Midwestern Higher Education Commission provides for greater higher education opportunities and services in the Midwestern region. 

This reappointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Home Based Child Care Council Board of Directors

Karla Swift of Livonia, project consultant for Wayne County, is appointed to represent child care advocates or current consumers of child care services for a term expiring September 7, 2012.  She succeeds Karen Eaton whose term has expired.

The Michigan Home Based Child Care Council focus is on improving the quality of child care provided in home settings in Michigan.  It is charged with making recommendations to public agencies, public bodies, or public officials regarding regulations, legislation, appropriations, and programs in regard to the system of providing child care in Michigan.This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Commission on Community Action and Economic Opportunity

Donald Jones of Pleasant Ridge, director of resource development with the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, is appointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring June 21, 2011.  He succeeds Alicia Harrison whose term has expired.

Alexandria Kiel of Detroit, student and public speaker, is appointed to represent low-income individuals for a term expiring June 21, 2011.  She succeeds Tracey Nash whose term has expired.

John Stephenson of Interlochen, executive director of the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, is appointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring June 21, 2011.  He is also designated to serve as chairperson for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. 

Karol Bolton of Adrian, Lenawee County commissioner, is reappointed to represent elected public officials for a term expiring June 21, 2011.

Sheilah Clay of Farmington Hills, president and CEO of the Neighborhood Service Organization, is reappointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring June 21, 2011.

William Dubord of Escanaba, executive director of Menominee-Delta-Schoolcraft Community Action Agency & Human Resources Authority, Inc., is reappointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring June 21, 2011.

Gary Gilbert of Mecosta, executive director of Mid-Michigan Community Action Agency, Inc., is reappointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring June 21, 2011.

Sonia Harb of Dearborn, area director of workforce development/youth and education with the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS), is reappointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring June 21, 2011.

Marsha Kreucher of Jackson, CEO of Community Action Agency, is reappointed to represent community action agencies for a term expiring June 21, 2011.

Daniel Piepszowski of Detroit, president of NewSource, LLC, is reappointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring June 21, 2011.

The Commission on Community Action and Economic Opportunity provides an opportunity for low-income persons to actively participate in the development of policies and programs to reduce poverty. 

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Committee on Juvenile Justice

Matthew Alers of Warren, graduate of the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy, is appointed to represent persons under the age of 24 who were formerly under the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system for a term expiring March 15, 2012.  He succeeds Joshua Davidson whose term has expired.

Jonnie Hill of Detroit, peer group facilitator for the Creating Independence & Outcomes Project and graduate of the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy, is appointed to represent volunteers who work with delinquents or potential delinquents and persons under the age of 24 for a term expiring March 15, 2012.  She succeeds Diane Giddings whose term has expired.

Ashley Miller of Mt. Pleasant, graduate of the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy, is appointed to represent persons under the age of 24 for a term expiring March 15, 2012.  She succeeds Sara Antoine whose term has expired.

The Committee on Juvenile Justice participates in the development and reviews of the federally-required Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Plan, and advises the governor and Michigan Human Services director on matters relating to the juvenile justice system in this state. 

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

General Industry Safety Standards Commission

Jeffrey Radjewski of Chesterfield Township, international representative for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), is reappointed to represent labor for a term expiring March 26, 2012.

AJ Hale of Marshall, regional manager for Tenneco, is reappointed to represent the management of principal industries in the state for a term expiring March 26, 2012.

The General Industry Safety Standards Commission is responsible for promulgating standards in accordance with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act to prevent accidents in places of employment and to protect the lives and safety of employees.

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.                  

Michigan Public Educational Facilities Authority

David Mittleman of East Lansing, attorney and partner with Church Wyble, P.C.  law firm, is reappointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring March 18, 2013.

The Michigan Public Educational Facilities Authority, a bipartisan entity housed within the Michigan Department of Treasury, is responsible for administering the qualified public education facility bond program for Michigan's public schools that are in need of new public educational facilities or whose existing public educational facilities are in need of renovation and remodeling.  This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.         

State Hospital Finance Authority 

Mary Ann Minard of Holt, clinical staff registered nurse in pediatric intensive care at Sparrow Hospital, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 1, 2013.  She succeeds Asad Malik whose term has expired.

Linda E. Bloch of Birmingham, attorney with Maddin, Hauser, Wartell, Roth & Heller, P.C. law firm, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 1, 2013.

Marylee Davis, Ph.D. of East Lansing, professor of higher education administration at Michigan State University, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 1, 2013.

The State Hospital Finance Authority provides hospitals within the state access to appropriate capital financing to expand, enlarge and establish health care and other related facilities. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Board of Veterinary Medicine

Carlene Allen of Frederic, director of Business and Finance for Gaylord Community Schools, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2009.  She succeeds Harold Paulson who has resigned. 

The Board of Veterinary Medicine is responsible for the licensure and examination of veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
 
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.                    

Commission for the Blind

Michael Geno of Port Huron, retired technology specialist with St. Clair County Community College and past president of the Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired, is appointed to represent blind persons for a term expiring September 30, 2010. He succeeds Mark A. Eagle who has resigned.

The Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) serves the state's estimated 50,000 blind persons through programs including vocational rehabilitation services, independent living services, deaf blind services, youth services, the Business Enterprise Program, and the MCB Training Center.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Idlewild Centennial Commission

Sharnita Johnson of Detroit, program officer for The Skillman Foundation, is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  She succeeds Milan "Budde" Reed whose term has expired. 

The Idlewild Centennial Commission is charged with coordinating activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Idlewild resort community in Lake County. 

This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Freedom Trail Commission

Rochelle Danquah of Farmington Hills, historian and director of Education with Sankofa Educational Services, Inc., is appointed to represent members at large for a term expiring February 1, 2011. She succeeds Velma Clay whose term has expired.

Roy Finkenbine of Livonia, professor of history with the University of Detroit Mercy, is appointed to represent the academic community for a term expiring February 1, 2012.  He succeeds Norman McRae whose term has expired.

Bonnie Marshall of Spring Lake, professor of liberal studies and diversity in the U.S. at Grand Valley State University, is appointed to represent the academic community for a term expiring February 1, 2012.  She succeeds Daina Berry whose term has expired.

Mary Edmond of Grand Rapids, retired owner of Reflections Unlimited, is reappointed to represent civil rights advocates for a term expiring February 1, 2013.

Carol Mull of Ann Arbor, curatorial consultant with the Kempf House Museum, is reappointed to represent historic preservation for a term expiring February 1, 2013.

Kimberly Simmons of Detroit, president and executive director of the Quarlls Watkins Heritage Project, is reappointed to represent members at large for a term expiring February 1, 2013.

The Michigan Freedom Trail Commission is responsible for promoting and preserving the legacy of the Freedom Trail and Underground Railroad in the state of Michigan.

These appointments and reappointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
