Tuesday, February 11, 2003

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced her appointment of David H. Fink, an Oakland County attorney, to head the Office of the State Employer.  In this position, Fink will oversee all collective bargaining, labor-management relations, and other employee services for Michigan’s more than 50,000 state workers.

Fink, 50, of West Bloomfield, is a founding shareholder of Zausmer, Kaufman, August & Caldwell, P.C., and has been in private practice since 1978.  He was Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Detroit after graduating from Harvard Law School with honors in 1977.

“David is a tireless worker for his own community, and I know he’ll now serve our community of state employees with distinction,” said Governor Granholm.  “Those who dedicate their careers to civil service are unsung heroes.  David and I are both committed to uplifting our Michigan government family.”

Fink’s previous government involvement includes the Michigan House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Revitalizing Michigan Cities; the Michigan Environmental Response Act Citizens Review Board; and the Environmental Law Section Council of the State Bar.  In addition, Fink was appointed by U.S. Senator Carl Levin to the Citizens Merit Selection Committee which reviews federal court appointees.

Fink is active in several community organizations, including the Bloomfield Hills Recreation Commission and the Michigan Jewish Conference.
