March 25, 2004

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Gary McInerney to the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority, which has operational responsibility for the convention center.  McInerney, of East Grand Rapids, is owner and president of the McInerney Law Offices in Grand Rapids.

Gary McInerney has been an active advocate of downtown renovations and investments since 1973 when he opened his law practice in the downtown business district.  In the late '70s, he began aggressively investing in the renovation of some of Grand Rapids' oldest buildings.  Today, his private investments are a part of the rejuvenation of the Monroe and Pearl Street corner in the center of downtown Grand Rapids, which has helped Grand Rapids be recognized as one of the most up and coming urban markets in Michigan.

“Gary and his family have been integrally involved in moving Grand Rapids forward for years,” said Granholm.  “His expertise and passion on the Convention/Arena Authority will help continue Grand Rapids’ exciting growth and development.”

Mr. McInerney is appointed for a term expiring February 29, 2008.  He succeeds David Frey whose term has expired.  This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
