Governor Granholm Appoints Members to State Fire Safety Board and Teacher Tenure Commission

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced the following recent appointments to the State Fire Safety Board and the State Teacher Tenure Commission.

Fire Safety Board

Harold Berry of Detroit, fire marshal for the City of Detroit, is appointed to represent organized fire departments in the Lower Peninsula for a term expiring July 15, 2004. He succeeds retired Fire Marshal Carleton Smith

Richard Prestage of St. Louis, nursing home administrator for Schnepp Health Care Center and volunteer firefighter, is reappointed to represent nursing home administrators for a term expiring July 15, 2006.

The Fire Safety Board has the mission of protecting life and property from fire, smoke, hazardous materials, and fire related panic in specific types of public facilities throughout the state of Michigan.

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Teacher Tenure Commission

Karen Leslie of Grayling, a middle school alternative education teacher with Crawford AuSable Schools, is appointed to represent classroom instructors for a term expiring August 31, 2005. She succeeds Frances Sinelli who has resigned.

This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
